Timely me! The New York Times this past Sunday had an article, "Hip Hip Poiret," about the upcoming Poiret exhibit (  see article at http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/22/magazine/22Style.txt.html) . Apparently Poiret's influence "will be much felt in the upcoming fall collections." Well, heck, I'll be ahead of that with my shawls - I'm hoping to get a few out even by the time the exhibition opens on May 9. Then in the fall I'm planning a Poiret cocoon coat or two, dyed using katazome. Ambitious projects. The main pattern I will use on my shawls is one I saw in the background of a Poiret fashion drawing by Erte - some abstract foliage. I translated it into a stencil, which is visible hanging in the background in the photo in my 4/17 entry. In the background, each shawl will be "printed" with one of my antique stencils, which I'm now in the process of reinforcing with this strenuous workout (for them) in mind. After each shawl is dyed, I will add beaded silk fringe....perfect for a night out in 1910 Paris.
